Free Tax Preparation

The VITA program has operated for over 50 years. VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:

People who generally make $60,000 or less

Persons with disabilities; and

Limited English-speaking taxpayers
In addition to VITA, the TCE program offers free tax help, particularly for those who are 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is a national program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to help families maximize their tax returns and avoid the fees businesses charge to prepare taxes. LIFE Financial Assistance Org VITA is a community partner that provides VITA sites in Northern Virginia.

LIFE Financial Assistance Org Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation for families and individuals with $60,000 or less income. This program promotes financial well-being, one of LIFE's seven Steps to Success.
The work undertaken by LIFE organization, both by staff and volunteers, in preparing income tax returns for qualifying families and individuals is highly commendable. Focusing on advocating for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that individuals receive the full financial benefits they are entitled to.
The emphasis on accuracy in tax returns is crucial, as it helps individuals avoid potential issues and ensures compliance with tax regulations. By providing these services, LIFE organization plays a vital role in preventing unclaimed tax credits, minimizing fees for tax preparation services, and steering individuals away from refund anticipation loans.

In-person VITA services are available at two sites in Northern Virginia by appointment only. Some services may also be available virtually.
